It looked at the structural causes that weaken liberalism or contest its hegemonic status in the Global North. In 2015, several of Malevich’s texts were found in the archive of Marian Kropyvnytsky in Kyiv. Levina analyzed recently published books and articles by Tetyana Filevska, Myroslava M. Mudrak, Myroslav Shkandrij, and others to get a deeper insight into his Ukrainian heritage. Read more

At the same time, he strongly identified as Russian and defined his thought in terms of its relation to Russian religious and intellectual traditions. A question to be addressed in this colloquium was, therefore, what implications this relation has for the overall evaluation of Berdyaev both as a philosopher and as a point of reference for the contemporary crisis of Russian culture. Poole, Dessy Gavrilova Series: Lecture The third part of the lecture series, “Reading Russian Philosophy in the Age of Putin,” offered contemporary readings on religion and human rights topics. In the afternoon session, the two speakers considered the official rhetoric of the Russian Orthodox Church on the Russo-Ukrainian War. They looked closely and critiqued some of the positions of the Church, frequently identified with the pronouncements of Patriarch Kirill, which make intentional associations with a long intellectual tradition of Eastern Orthodox and Russian thought. The evening lecture will consider the recent demise of a nineteenth-century Russian intellectual tradition of human dignity and human rights. Read more
