"Who are the Czechs?" is an essay by Jan Patočka written in the1970s when no debate over such issues as the Czech nation, its history and the present time was possible to be held in the Communist Czechoslovakia. Moreover, the study offers a recap on the Czech history. Its aim is to identify some major developmental tendencies of the Czech state and its people as well as the ideas that moulded them. The essay also elaborates on the Czech national identity and political consciousness as being shaped in historical processes.
