Seyla Benhabib's book The Rights of Others. Aliens, Residents and Citizens (CUP 2004) is an insightful contribution to contemporary debates in political and moral philosophy on both refugee rights and the regulatory rights of democracies. It draws on reflections on contemporary political dilemmas as well as on a long tradition of political thought (Kant, Arendt, Rawls, Habermas). In the years that followed the publication, the author herself continued to develop her views and to apply them to later political developments and refugee issues. For this reason, the translation project also includes the writing of a summary of the discussions that the book has generated, which will be added as an appendix to the book.
