On Thursday 12 November Roman Bondarenko, a thirty-one year-old artist, died as a result of a deadly beating by security forces the day before. On Sunday, 15 November, Aliaksandr Bystryk,a PhD candidate in the Department of History at Central European University, and his wife, Marylia Sliaptsova, a human rights activist who works at the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House, took part in protests in response to Bondarenko’s murder and were detained again. They were both released the following day to await trial. Aliaksandr was detained for a third time on Sunday 22 November and remains in custody.
